AVA Academy

Who is eligible for the Academy?

The AVA Academy is for Volunteer Administrators who have less than three years of experience
in the field, have received some of the basics but not a comprehensive curriculum,
or want a refresher course in basic volunteer resources management. If these are your
challenges, then the AVA Academy is for YOU!

The curriculum incorporates the basics of volunteer management into a set of workshops
that offer small-group, interactive learning. As an Academy student, you will learn
how to assess needs, design meaningful volunteer positions, target recruiting, screen and
interview applicants and successfully place volunteers. Other topics include volunteer
orientation, training, evaluation, performance improvement and recognition. Workshop
sessions will be taught by a variety of skilled trainers who have depth of experience in
Volunteer Administration. You will be exposed to multiple perspectives, all of which will
enrich your learning experience.

Who directs the Academy?

Jim and Judy Bottorf, international trainers, consultants and practitioners direct the
Academy.

Registration Fees

Academy participants pay the full Conference registration fee which includes attendence
at all meals, keynote sessions and special Conference events. There is an additional fee
of $15.00 US for the AVA Academy. A specific AVA Academy Orientation is part of the
First-Time Attendee Orientation on Wednesday, October 9 from 5:00 pm – 6:00 pm.

The Academy curriculum covers ALL workshop time slots during the Conference to provide in-depth training.

Participants will receive a notebook containing the Academy text and resources and an
Academy shirt. Participants must attend every session to receive a Certificate of
Completion. Ensure that your travel arrangements allow you to complete all sessions,
including the closing luncheon, at which time the graduating class will be photographed
and recognized.

You will never have a better opportunity to learn best practices and join the ranks of professional
Volunteer Administrators. Return home with a new support group of peers with whom you can continue to communicate, and a Certificate of Completion that documents your training.
