ICVA 2002 Site Not Affected by Colorado Fires

From the Colorado ICVA Steering Committee

Our governor recently announced to the world that Colorado is on fire, while Jay Leno and other comedians are telling jokes about the fires in our state. The fires are no joking matter and unfortunately are impacting many in our state. However, we want to assure you that the site of the 2002 ICVA is not affected by the fires. Hopefully the following information will be helpful to you as you make your plans to join us in October.

Colorado is a huge state comprising of 66 million acres. Less than 150,000 acres are being consumed in the fires. Less than 1 percent of the state is involved in the fires. The media makes it sound like we are all on fire. All major roads and highways in Colorado are open. 37 of the 40 state parks and all national parks and monuments are open. There is however a ban on open fires in Colorado and there are no plans which involve open fires during the conference. The Hayman Fire is the closest to Denver and it is 40-50 miles away. Rocky Mountain National Park is more than 100 miles from the closest fire. This is the distance between New York and Philadelphia.

The Coloardo Steering Committee is hard at work to make this an outstanding conference in all respects. We look forward to welcoming you to Colorado in October!
