A CHANGE OF WORLDS – A Memorial Service in Native American Tradition

Session Description: This ritual encourages participants to remember those for whom they provided professional service or those close to them personally who have died.  The service includes peaceful meditation, music, poetic readings and name recognition through the use of tokens, artifacts and verbal reminiscences.

Learning Objectives:
1. Recognize the need for rituals and memorials to help provide comfort following a death
2. Experience an actual service based on the process from another culture
3. Be able to use their experience and the handout materials to help implement similar programs as appropriate in their own organizations
4. Appreciate the quiet, contemplative and calming effect of being part of a ceremonial ritual
5. Expand their knowledge and awareness to enhance their volunteer administrator skills
