DOES YOUR VOLUNTEER PROGRAM NEED A FEW GOOD MEN?

Ken Culp, University of Kentucky, Kentucky

Session Description: Does your “Volunteer Administrator’s Wish List” include more men?  Perhaps your volunteer program or recruitment techniques are not “male friendly”.  Men are, after all, “wired” differently than women.  Learn the “connection points” necessary to attract, recruit, utilize and retain male volunteers.

Learning Objectives:
1. Understand how gender differences impacts volunteer recruitment
2. Learn how traditional volunteer recruitment efforts are less effective with men
3. Determine how to structure volunteer roles to be more "male friendly"
4. Develop recruitment and retention strategies which appeal to men
5. Identify the language and vernacular to utilize which will be more appealing to male volunteers
6. Learn how to connect with predominantly male organizations in order to capitalize upon their potential as volunteer resources
