YOU ASKED ME, I WANT TO, YOU DON’T LET ME – WHY?

Jo Dawn Newlon, Women in Community Service, Colorado

Session Description: Frequently, youth are recruited for volunteer positions and not given creative parameters for the job.  Then we wonder why we have youth that aren’t able to solve problems!  This is an opportunity to brainstorm, re-validate and re-energize your own best practices.

Learning Objectives:
1. Participants will leave the session being able to put into practice turning a volunteer experience into a Youth Development opportunity (youth Development vs. Free Labor)
2. Participants will leave the session being able to assist youth in identifying their personal assets that they can bring to a volunteer role
3. Participants will leave the session with a tool that will assist them in training youth how to plan and develop volunteer projects

Level:  Basic-Intermediate
Conference Theme(s): Community, Reflection
