Affinity Group and Partnership Meetings

American Red Cross Volunteer Institute: Putting The Pieces In Place... Planning, People, Progress And Peak Performance!

Tues. & Wed., October 8 and 9
This two-day meeting brings together Red Cross professionals from throughout the system and across lines of service. Straightforward discussions, workshops, and roundtables on how we put all the pieces in place to maintain peak performance in the delivery of service to our  communities. There will be a strong focus on basic management skills and communication.

Building Leadership: 2002 Summit For National Level Managers Of Volunteer Resources

Tues., October 8, 7:00 pm – 9:00pm and Wed., October 9, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm
This Second Annual Summit will enable senior managers to connect with colleagues, share best practices and work through common challenges. Explore national and international trends in volunteer management as they relate to national organizations and review Toronto's 2001 task group accomplishments. Wednesday’s session will build upon discussions from our Tuesday evening plenary.

One Earth Group: Managing Our Natural And Cultural Heritage

Wed., October 9, 8:00 am – 5:30 pm
This session is for Volunteer Administrators who manage volunteers in natural and cultural
settings. Public agencies and private organizations will meet and collaborate with others in the
field. Learn to develop connections with communities to create successful partnerships that
ultimately benefit environmental conservation and cultural preservation. This program includes a
field trip to a local site of interest.

Connecting For Success In Your Local Professional Network/DOVIA

Wed., October 9, 8:30 am – 4:00 pm
How is your group operating now? What trends affect you? What can your group do that’s new and different? These questions will be answered for individuals who lead a professional network, who are members of a network, or those thinking about starting such a group. Share your board structure, how you are organized and what types of programs and benefits you offer your members. A joint session between local Volunteer Management Associations and Volunteer Center Associations that examines respective roles and the potential for greater collaboration concludes the session. Facilitated by: Kathleen McCleskey, KM Consulting and Training Connection and Executive Director of the Texas State Association for Volunteer Managers and Sue Waechter, Cornerstone Consulting Associates, LLC.

Emergency/Disaster Planning In Our Communities: Are We Prepared?

Wed., October 9, 8:30 am – 4:00 pm; Registration and coffee: 8:00 am – 8:30 am
Join the National Association of Volunteer Programs in Local Government (NAVPLG) to
learn about government volunteer programs' roles in emergency and disaster planning,
including how partnerships with other organizations can make or break your emergency
plan. This meeting will focus on the Volunteer Administrator's role and how to use volunteers
in the event of an emergency. This session is for those who manage volunteers in a local
government setting – city, county, township, law enforcement agency, fire department, etc.
Fee: $75 US for NAVPLG members; $100 US for non-members. Light breakfast and lunch included.
 

Volunteer Center Affinity Meeting

Wed., October 9, 8:30 am – 4:00 pm
Volunteer Centers are in the forefront of effective volunteer management and partnership development, both locally and nationally. President Bush has challenged Americans to volunteer 4,000 hours of service in their lifetimes to their neighbors and the United States. There is now an increased need for accurate quantitative and qualitative data to demonstrate the impact of this work and the value of service. How does your Volunteer Center measure success in these areas?
 
Focus on outcome based measurement tools, review and analyze your present measurement prac-tices and learn about other benchmarking tools. Examine the potential for relationships between state, regional and local Volunteer Centers and Volunteer Administrators. Jointly sponsored by the Points of Light Foundation, Volunteer Center National Network, and AVA.

Managing Volunteers In Sport And Recreation

Wed., October 9, 9:00 am – 4:30pm
This new affinity group meeting will provide an opportunity for participants to listen to key speakers from around the world, ask questions, and discuss and share ideas. The morning deals with the unique culture of volunteers in sport and recreation, followed by a discussion on volunteer training and how to overcome issues between paid staff and volunteers. The afternoon includes strategies for attracting volunteers to your sport, creative ways to recognize volunteers, and tips on how to keep good volunteers involved.

A Museum And Arts Gathering: Continuing The Conversation

Wed., October 9, 9:00 am – 4:30 pm
Location: Denver Museum of Nature and Science
Managing volunteers in cultural organizations creates unique challenges for Volunteer Administrators. Join your colleagues from museums, theaters, orchestras, aquariums and similar settings to learn about successful strategies for recruiting, retaining and managing volunteers, and innovative programs for utilizing valuable community resources. After roundtable discussions and lunch, tour the museum and see volunteers in action.
Fee: $50.00 US. Includes breakfast, lunch & transportation to and from hotel (Bus departs from hotel at 8:30 am)
 

Faith-Based Service

Wed., October 9, 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm
This affinity group will be facilitated by an interfaith group of clergy and religious leaders representing four faith traditions. Discussion will focus on the definition of service and community from each faith’s perspective. Explore the common elements and ways that community issues can be addressed by volunteerism based in tradition.
Fee: $15.00 US. Refreshments included.
 

Volunteer Management Hot Topics In Healthcare Settings

Wed., October 9, 1:00 pm – 3:30 pm
Join colleagues from hospitals, long-term care facilities and other healthcare profit/nonprofit organi-zations and network with other Volunteer Services Administrators. Participants will have the oppor-tunity to ask questions and share information and solutions about new initiatives for volunteers, vol-unteer management, recruitment, and regulatory and professional development issues.
