Session Description: Effective retention is possible, even in an age focused on short-term commitment.  Recognition is not the answer.  Learn how to relate each phase of volunteer program management to retention of volunteers you want to keep.  Practical experience from successful programs for direct application in a wide variety of settings.

1. Identify the key elements of successful volunteer program management
2. Identify the relationship to retention of position descriptions, recruitment, screening, placement, training, supervision and recognition
3. Identify at least one change in program practices to improve volunteer retention
