Written as a textbook, this is also a manual for practitioners. Systematically examines and explains the functions of volunteer management.

This book outlines a step-by-step approach to the recruiting and retention of volunteers. The first seven steps explain a marketing approach to the recruitment of volunteers. Topics include conducting needs assessments, strategic planning, program promotion, and the use of volunteer recruiting teams.

Macduff, Nancy. Building Effective Volunteer Committees.
The backbone of volunteer efforts is provided by functioning committees. This book outlines the steps to build effective committees. Detailed explanations are given for recruiting the right people, writing guidelines, establishing annual work plans, holding members accountable for their responsibilities and evaluating individuals and committee work.

Macduff, Nancy. Episodic Volunteering: Building the Short-Term Volunteer Program.
Many volunteers of the 90�s want assignments of short duration. This book provides strategies to determine your readiness for this type of program, techniques to recruit and ways to sustain the episodic volunteer.

MacKenzie, Marilyn, Dealing With Difficult Volunteers
