A Guide to Investing in Volunteer Resources ManagementA Guide to Investing in Volunteer Resources Management: Improve Your Philanthropic Portfolio, a new publication funded by a generous grant from The UPS Foundation, is now available! This project, developed in partnership by The UPS Foundation, AVA, and the Points of Light Foundation, provides funders and other nonprofit stakeholders with valuable information and evidence illustrating the importance of investing in volunteer resources.

Over 50 grantmakers, nonprofit leaders and corporate executives including representatives from the Ford Foundation, the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, the Council on Foundations, and The Peter F. Drucker Foundation for Nonprofit Management were interviewed for the publication. Results of those interviews are reflected in tools and other information that can assist both nonprofits and funders in increasing their capacity to support effective volunteer involvement. Contents of the publication include:

  • Key messages on what contributes to effective volunteer management
  • Examples of investors in nonprofit volunteer infrastructure
  • Checklists of ways to support volunteer resources management in local communities
  • Tools and information to assess a nonprofits capacity for volunteer engagement
  • A list of internet resources

The guide was presented in mid-November, 2002 during a workshop at the fifth annual conference of Grantmaker Forum for Community and National Service. If you havent done so already, download your copy of the guide now. The grantmaker guide is also currently available online at www.community.ups.com, and www.pointsoflight.org through the Volunteer Marketplace.

Hard copies of this publication are also available from AVA, for the cost of $2.00 per copy (preferably pre-paid).   To order a printed copy, contact the AVA office at [email protected] or 804-672-3353.
